The Churchill lecture was established in 1997 to examine Churchill's involvement with war and peace issues in the twentieth century. The International Churchill Societies asked Wilfrid Laurier University to host the lecture series because the Laurier Centre for Military, Strategic and Disarmament Studies demonstrated the University's interest in those issues.
